What Are Life Skills?
Dictionary.com defines a life skill as, “A skill that helps a person function well in adult life, especially in social or emotional situations.“
When a person possesses these skills, they function better in society, and their lives are easier. In contrast, the absence of these skills creates obstacles and hurdles that complicate life unnecessarily, thereby preventing these individuals from thriving. In other words, life skills are necessary for shalom.
Why Live Skills?
The vision of Big C Outreach is to help broken people (which includes us!) find health and healing in all areas of their lives. Stated differently, Big C Outreach is about helping people thrive. In Biblical terms, it’s shalom.
Here’s a simple truth: those who want change in their lives must learn and apply new skills that will allow them to navigate and overcome the challenges they are facing. Learning is absolutely necessary and cannot be avoided.
If Big C Outreach is to have the greatest impact on our community, we must focus on teaching life skills to anyone who is interested and willing to learn. This must be a top priority.
We’re Looking for Help
If you’re a reasonably functioning adult, then you have probably mastered quite a few skills, which help you on a daily basis. Most of us go through life without giving it much thought. Nevertheless, the reality is that we know quite a bit when it comes to the basics of life.
Life skills classes are not possible without teachers. So, we are looking for skilled individuals who want to pass along what they’ve learned to others. We’re searching for people who want to give back and have a desire to do more than just improve the lives of themselves and their families. They want to make a positive impact on our community and beyond.

Want to Help, But Not Lead?
For those of you who aren’t ready to lead a class yourself, we understand. And we’ve thought about you too.
We offer two types of positions on our life skills teams: Teacher and Assistant.
The position of Teacher is for those who are ready to lead the life skills class. We’ve discussed them above.
Assistant is a position for those who aren’t sure about their expertise in the subject or are simply uncomfortable being in charge. However, they still want to help; just not lead.
If this describes you, then Assistant may be the perfect role for you. Please consider joining the team. You can sign up on the form below, and one of our team members will be in contact soon.
